Leslie Banks is probably best remembered for playing villainous characters, such as in Went the Day Well, in which he played a traitor helping Nazis to infiltrate a rural English village.  However, as Inspector Slade in The Arsenal Stadium Mystery Banks plays for laughs as a somewhat eccentric police officer.

His eccentricity is introduced when he makes his first appearance as the director of a police revue. Up until this point there is nothing to indicate the film's light-hearted nature:
